Social and Institutional Status of Area Exclosure in North Wollo and Waghemira Zones, Northeastern Ethiopia

Forest restoration with area exclosure has the hopeful strategy for nature conservation and social development goals as a countermeasure against deforestation forest degradation. However, status of these interventions is not well known scientific evaluation. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate institutional exclosures. To do this, three districts in agroecologies were selected purposively based on availability, each district, exclosures selected. The questionnaire survey was administered households near both user nonuser groups simple random sampling. Required data collected analyzed by descriptive inferential statistics then compared best practices Ostrom’s design principles (ODPs). result revealed that local community good trust participation highland (63%) mid-altitude (70%) areas, but low lowland areas (85%). In communities have right use multiple uses. very restricted communities. Exclosure institutions governance showed medium compliance highland, mid-altitude, poor ODP. This triangulated when 79% respondents 82% argued successful failed lowland. For sustainable practice exclosure, approach should start at bottom activity require full all stages.
